You can visit Palm Springs, drive right by and never even know
there are several nudist hotels within a mile or two of the city hall!
Desert Sun, the largest of the three, maintains a restaurant and bar,
plus two pools and tennis court. You might see a child there but we've never
spotted one.
Morningside is the smallest with about 8 rooms, each
individually and uniquely decorated. Terra Cotta with 17 and Desert Sun
totalling about 95 rooms some new, some old, with a condominium project of about
the same number of units recently completed next door. The condos are luxury
units with a full apartment set up with 1 and 2 bedrooms.
All rooms are
simple and clean, and you get your money's worth with good beds, AC and fans,
phones, cable TV, wonderful proprietors and excellent guests.
Another
nudist only facility is located in Desert Hot Springs, too, but does not want
to be named...go figure. |
 |
| |
Hotels are right in or near downtown Palm Springs. Terra Cotta
is about 2 miles east from downtown in a residential area and the other two are
literally blocks from each other, all just down the street from city center.
Planes, trains, automobiles and buses can get you there. Flights into
the Palm Springs airport are numerous but expensive. Best bet for a cheaper
airline ticket is to fly into Ontario's airport an hour west of Palm Springs
and rent a car to drive into Palm Springs on I-10. If you're going to rent a
car anyway, fly to Ontario, where flights and cars are usually cheaper.

All hotels feature clean, comfortable rooms, with a light
breakfast and afternoon snack included. Some even supply a little wine or beer
to soothe your fevered brow. Of course, each hotel has its own pool/hot tub
area.
Desert Sun, the largest of the three, maintains a
restaurant and bar, plus two pools and tennis court. You might see a child
there but we've never spotted one.
Tom and Mary Claire at Terra Cotta report their property
was once a secluded, privately-owned guest house for the rich and famous,
where, years ago John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe reportedly arranged to
visit. Tom & Mary Claire's pet, Godiva, is a hit at the resort as always
but watch for her subtle nudge for a snack.....you just can't tell her no. And,
don't bend over near her, either!
Morningside's most unique quality is each of its rooms
is individually decorated, with a different theme decor for each guest's
quarters. While small, the intimacy and friendly pool atmosphere make for a
cozy guest ambiance.

Desert Sun is the only one of the three with an onsite
restaurant which features solid American food. Our favorite past time is to try
the many terrific restaurants in Palm Springs and the surrounding towns for any
type of food you want at reasonable prices.
A nice touch: The resorts
usually maintain a nice inventory of menus from local restaurants so you can
day dream about your evening meal while floating nude in the pool in the
afternoon. Plenty of local restaurants offer delivery service, too.

|
| |
All the resorts are priced similarly at a range from about
$100-$125/night/room for two. Some give you a choice of rooms with kitchens or
kitchenettes, some have suites that can sleep four people. The resorts may also
feature various "specials" for mid week stays or other discounts during summer
time. The specials either are reduced rates or a free night for a certain
number of nights stay, typically during the off season or during a mid-week
stay.
Holidays and weekend rates are slightly higher.

All resorts are just great to get away from it all and relax.
You will find your share of entertainment and movie industry types at Terra Cotta and
Morningside and maybe a few more locals at Desert Sun. More often than not,
majority of the guests will be from southern California with the other guest
claiming home from around the world.
We have met some terrific people
at each of these resorts where you will enjoy the clientele if you introduce
yourselves. Make friends with the owners/managers--they are all just wonderful
people to meet.

Your choice of: golf, gambling, shopping, tennis, fishing,
bingo, dining, drinking, people watching and sunning. You can also enjoy spa
treatments, hot springs, dancing or a tram ride to the top of the nearby
mountain range. If you really want to, you can drive into Los Angeles two hours
away if you can't find enough to do in the area.
NOTE: The properties
are small/medium-sized hotels....please don't expect them to be a lavish
destination with discos, restaurants, jogging trails, huge swimming pools and
numerous restaurants or bars on site. Yes, they are nudist resorts but they are
not full service resorts with all amenities on site. You would visit these
resorts to relax, meet people, swim, barbecue, hot tub and visit the local
area's attractions.

The weather--great in the fall, winter and spring;
hot (100+ in the shade) in the summer. |

Nice touches are the "misters" at most of the resort
buildings, shop and restaurants around Palm Springs that emit a fine spray of
water that really cools down the surrounding area. You don't get wet--you just
stay cool. |

Desert Sun has a resident artist, Curt Hamilton, who
is multi-talented. His current claim to fame, among others, is body casting. We
had Champagne's nude torso sculpted to form a permanent casting, suitable for
framing or hanging on the living room wall. Makes a beautiful and GREAT
conversation piece. Once upon a time, Curt was a professional photographer for
Playboy Magazine. |

| |
Palm Springs is a year-round destination plus you may find
seasonal rates and specials offered during the summer months.
|
|
| |
Have a few places in town that are open late. Palm Springs
seems to roll up the sidewalks earlier than usual. However, local merchants
have established a fun street market once a week, usually Thursday nights,
where the main street is closed for shoppers and vendor stalls. You will find
some great local crafts and wonderful gifts at the local vendor stalls, too.
Ask at your resort's front desk for information about the street market, time,
date and location.
