We rented a car from airport and used that for the week to
travel around. That way, we could visit Tulum ruins, go to Tulum beaches, and
go to Sian Kaan Biosphere. The Biosphere is a very rough road to drive on, so
don't recommend people who have bad backs or don't like an almost off road
experience.
We ate at Oscars & Yalo's (down the road from Dolce
Vita) for all three nights we were there we enjoyed it so much and got to know
the owner. For lunch, we ate at Tulum ruins one day, a little cafe in Tulum
beach just down the road from Copal one day, and then ate at the restaurant in
Sian Kaan at the resort that is there. I can't remember the name of it but had
amazing views from on top of the restaurant as it sat atop a cliff overlooking
the sea.
Connie & Chris (Dolce Vita owners) recommended the
restaurant in Biosphere, as they take the family there when they come to visit.
He also recommended the beach on the road before you get to the restaurant in
the biosphere to hang out and picnic on. We spent the afternoon on the beach
there and had great time. We were able to swim and play nude on the beach there
as well after walking down a little ways from 2 families that were on the beach
enjoying a beach day.
We never BBQed at the villa. We just enjoyed the
pool. Was nice and small so we used it to dip and cool off in and then would
get out and read book in Adirondack chairs by the pool. Yes, the villa to the
north does encroach a bit but the people only came out for a little bit every
day. We put our lounge chairs to the south on other side of the beach hammocks
and laid out in the morning nude. Was nice and quiet. There were a couple of
people who walked the beach while we were there. We had towels with us and
would cover up as they walked past and then uncover again, as to not offend. A
very relaxing trip |

A couple we had met ... contacted us and asked if we would
be interested in New Years at Villa Dolce Vita. We checked the site and jumped
at the chance. After an hour and a half drive from the airport our host, Connie,
greeted us and showed us to our very comfortable rooms. The grounds are
immaculate and the rooms very nice although the mattresses are a bit firm. It
has a lovely beach with hammocks in a covered palapa and lounge chairs. The
sand is soft and white enough to enjoy a nude massage on the beach with one of
the best masseuses we have had, a real treat! Kayaking to the reef for
snorkeling was the only real exercise for the week, other than the trips to the
fridge for another cervesa frio.
The ocean was a bit churned while we
were there, but it looks like snorkeling would be a treat in calmer seas with
lots of fish and coral. You can kayak to the reef which is about a ¼
mile off the beach. Just off the beach there are lots of rocks and sea urchins,
so water shoes are a must. Understand the beaches on the bay are not clothing
optional in general. The beach in front of the villa is really the only place
you would see nude sunbathers but then again, we only saw 4-6 people (clothed)
walk by on the beach each day.
It is pretty desolate. Tulum is a
15-minute drive and has plenty of nightlife and restaurants. Playa del Carmen
is 20-30 minutes away for those that feel the need to shop. Connie will direct
you to some great restaurants! If you go, we would strongly suggest a rental
car since there is only 1 restaurant that is marginally in walking
distance--quite a hike in the dark. Dinner out and the occasional shopping trip
were the only times we had to dress, other than covering for breakfast. The
point of Villa Dolce Vita is all about relaxing, on the beach, by the pool,
under the palapa. If you are looking for excitement, this is not the
place...just perfect for us! |
