Resort Overview |
| |
Do you know Belize is the only Latin American nation where
English is the official language? Citizens also speak their local dialect,
Papiemento, and Spanish.
Owners/Operators Cat and Dale recently moved
to Belize after 12 years of operating their resort in the Bahamas. They have
spent the last two years in Placencia, Southern Belize building "Casa At Last."
The resort sits on 6 beautifully landscaped acres overlooking the peaceful
Placencia Lagoon and striking Maya Mountains.
Accommodations
are in 4 uniquely different Casas (houses). All of the casas have air
conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, and wireless internet. They are furnished
with lovely locally made artwork and furniture. Top quality linens and towels,
comfortable mattresses and feather pillows will make you feel that you are
"Home At Last". There is a sparkling freshwater swimming pool with a swim up
bar (honor system). There are pool floats and toys and private lounging
casitas. Also there is a separate hot tub area. Both areas have palapas for
shade, BBQ gas grills and are clothing optional.
Stroll the beautiful
grounds to the 285' boardwalk that leads over the mangroves to the dock palapa.
Here you can kayak the lagoon and many mangroved covered creeks, fish from the
dock or siesta in the hammock. A 3 minute walk across the road brings you to a
beach front park. The beach in this area is virgin and you can walk for many
miles.
"Casa At Last" is a private gated resort with night time
security to provide you with the utmost in privacy.
Nudity: "Casa At
Last" is nude friendly and clothing-optional at our pool, hot tub, and in the

Getting There |
| |
The only international airport is Belize
International....just a few minutes outside Belize City. Daily air service is
provided from north America by American, Continental, Delta, U.S. Air and other
regional and local airlines.
Many airlines fly directly into Belize
City. From there, take a commuter flight with either Tropic Air or Maya Island
Air into Placencia......about a 30 minute flight. Both airlines have many
flights a day, are reliable and have good safety records. The resort is located
about 3 miles north of the airstrip and the resort will provide your transfer
to and from the air strip.
You may choose to rent a car (Crystal Auto
Rental) in Belize City. The drive is about 3 1/2 hrs and takes you through the
spectacular Mayan mountains. The roads are paved, except for the last 20 miles.
The roads are sometimes quite narrow with one lane bridges. There is not much
traffic but driving at night is not recommended. Car rentals are available in
Placencia on a daily or weekly basis.

Sightseeing |
| |
Placencia is a small, laid back fishing community. It holds
the Guiness Book World Record for having the narrowest main street in the
world. It is actually a sidewalk (no cars or bikes), that winds down the beach
with many restaurants, bars and gift shops. The local Mayan women set up shop
on blankets
under
the palm trees to sell their handmade goods - beautiful wood carvings, woven
baskets, and intricate bead work.
The Placencia Peninsula can satisfy
anyone's craving for diving, snorkeling, kayaking and fishing. Anglers dream
about waters like these where they regularly catch snook, tarpon, bonefish and
trophy size permit on the flats. Fly fishermen spot crocodiles and toucans
while plying the backwaters of the Lagoon. Deep sea fishermen land kingfish,
wahoo, dolphin, grouper and tuna with spring and fall migrations of marlin and
sailfish.
Belize boasts the second longest barrier reef in the world.
Diving and snorkeling revolve around the pristine outer cayes bobbing on a
shallow plateau inside the reef, with the outer reef wall plunging out of
sight. Locally, Laughingbird Caye sits within a National Park. Laced with
virginal beaches, brilliant sea life around the caye include soft and hard
coral, tropical fish, goliath groupers, gracefull stingrays and playful
dolphin. Full moons March to June find the worlds largest fish, the Whale Shark
30 to 40 feet in size, plying Belizean waters. Don't worry.....humans are not
on their diet!
For kayakers there are many miles of mangrove covered
creeks and lagoon to explore. Inland you can kayak many of the rivers from the
mountains to the sea.
Other inland excursions seek fantastic flora,
wildcats, and birds (over 495 confirmed species). Visit the Cockscombe Basin
Jaquar Reserve where you can hike thru the rain forest to beautiful waterfalls
or take a relaxing tube trip down river thru the mountains. A road trip down
the Southern Highway leads you past many Mayan villages. The houses are
thatched with dirt floors, most without electric and water. The local women
still wear their traditional dress and you'll see them doing their laundry in
the rivers and streams while their children bathe in the water. Watch for the
turnoff for Monkey River Town. Here you can take a boat trip up the river to
see and hear the Howler Monkeys - watch out for the crocodiles!!! (This trip
can also be done by boat from the resort's dock). Continuing southward will
lead you to the once thriving, now silent, ancient Mayan sites Lubaantun (Place
of Fallen Stone) and Nim Li Punit (Big Hat). Here you can see stone structures
built with no mortar with each stone hand crafted to fit exactly. Also view
many impressive Stalae, carved stone slabs used for commemoration.
With Placencia being a small tourist area all types of tours are on a small
scale with one on one service. NO large crowds! Many of the tours will pick you
up from the resort's dock. Diving is spectacular in all of Belize as well as
offshore in the cayes.
Whatever activity you wish to do, it will be
memorable! For more information on the local area log onto:

Travel & Life: Try the Monkey River Boat Tour in Placencia.

resort about arranging a tour.
